Hawaii's islands are very similar climatically and geographically; the main difference is the amount of development, number of tourists, volcanic activity and the quality of beaches and size of waves, though Kauai usually gets more rain than the other islands.
Hawai'i - usually known as Big Island to avoid confusion - is the name of the largest of the six main Hawaii islands. The others are Oahu, the most developed island and home to the capital city Honolulu, Maui, the second largest island, Kauai, a lush and lovely land due to rather more rainfall than other islands, the least spoilt, rarely visited Molokai, and the private resort island of Lanai.
